A Hurlford History

Hurlford, a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland, has its roots in the 19th century industrial boom. Originally a small rural settlement, it expanded rapidly with the rise of coal mining and ironworks in the area, becoming a key contributor to Scotland’s industrial growth. The village was once thriving with miners, foundry workers, and railway builders, giving it a strong working-class identity that remains part of its character today. In the present day, Hurlford is a quieter, close-knit community, known for its local football club, scenic surroundings, and its position as a gateway between the larger town of Kilmarnock and the rural beauty of Ayrshire’s countryside.

Hurlford United Football Club

…founded in 1912, has been a central part of village life for over a century. The club achieved national recognition in recent years, notably winning the Scottish Junior Cup in 2014. Hurlford has also been home to several professional footballers over the years, underlining the village’s strong sporting spirit. Perhaps most notably, local legend Derek McCulloch who went on to manage the team after his playing career.

I invited three different estate agents to share their approach to marketing when I was deciding which one to select to sell my home. Lomond Property had come to my attention because of the number of 'sold' signs seen around town. Despite being relative newcomers, I decided to listen to what they had to offer. I'm so pleased that I did.Craig was the only agent to come fully prepared with relevant market statistics. Furthermore, he was the only agent that explained the value add service that they could offer especially when the buyers were still unsold or not on the market yet themselves. As it happens, my buyer marketed their property through Lomond Property only after I accepted their offer.Gillian from the Kilmarnock office was fantastic at keeping me fully updated. This was really appreciated because there were three buyers in our chain. She was calm, efficient and patient with enough humour to keep spirits elevated.Other elements, such as the quality of their photographer, make this agency stand out in a very competitive market.I can often find things to recommend regarding where service levels can be improved. Looked at a few agents within Kilmarnock for selling my house and after speaking with Craig I felt Lomond were definitely the right choice for me . After my photos were done , so very sorry I forgot the guys name, and the preview was sent I knew I made the correct decision. Very professional photographer very good at his job . Gillian was great to deal with on a daily basis arranging viewings , discussing feedback etc . Overall my experience with Lomond and the staff I dealt with really made me feel at ease especially during the stress of trying to sell a house .
